Madhwacharya had a bull that used to carry all his books (granthangaL).

Once when all sishyas ask Sri Madhwacharya about who is the next head of the mutt, he replies that this bull will be the next head.

The disciples poison and kill the bull in anger. The bull takes birth again as the prince in Mangalavedha village. He was living happily with 2 wives. 

One day when he was drinking water from the river while seated on his horse (without getting down from the horse), a Madhwa sampradaya guru asks him in anger , if he were a Bull his last birth. 

He suddenly remembers his swaroopam and takes up sanyasam.
