The mountain looks like an elephant...

Hrushva sringi prince was doing penance sitting here, and his father comes to call him back. He refuses. Hrishyasringa becomes a mountain in this form and the Lord sits on him in this hill...

From all directions, this mountain looks like elephant...

"Panchajanya" , the conch that Krishna used, is believed to be kept in this temple. On Vaikunta Ekadasi day, it will be taken out, and abhisheka done to the Lord using that conch...

Amrita (nectar) in Krita yuga,

Ghee in Treta Yuga,

Milk in Dwapara Yuga, and

Panaka ( a drink of Jaggery, lemon, dry-ginger etc with water) in this Kali Yuga.

Lot of flies are seen outside, but not even one is seen inside the Sanctum...

Paanaga Narasimha Temple...

Self manifested form of Narasimha in a cave inside the inner sanctum...

The sthala purana ( the story behind Narasimha shrine )

The asura namuchi does penence and hides in his sookshma roopa inside this cave.

He has a boon that he will not be destroyed by either wet or dry substances. And he torments devas after getting this boon...

Lord asks Devas to take the foam or froth from the oceans. They dip the Sudharshana chakra in the ocean and take the foam with it. Lord enters into it through the foam and the devas use the chakra to kill the asura...

Hence the deity here is called Sudharshana Narasimhar...

The power of foam...

The cave is the mouth of the Lord. Panaka drink(jaggery water, with lemon etc) is poured into the mouth of Narasimha, and we can hear the sound of his drinking it...
